Snow tubing parks with snowmaking
81 of the 229 parks we track list snowmaking, which usually means an earlier opening and a better chance of staying open through a thaw. They cover 24 states, with Minnesota and Wisconsin at 13 each.
What qualifies: Parks that make their own snow. They can open earlier and stay open through thaws that shut natural-snow hills.
Snowmaking is the closest thing to insurance a tubing hill can carry. Of the 229 parks we track, 81 list it, and they range from single-hill county parks to the largest operations in the country.
How to use this list
Use it to pick parks for the edges of the season: the weeks around opening in December and the thaw-prone stretch in late winter. A park that makes snow can build a base on cold nights and recover faster after rain, while a natural-snow hill simply waits. That helps most in the mid-Atlantic and the South, where 17 of the 30 southern parks we track list snowmaking. See snow tubing in the South for that group.
Snowmaking is not a guarantee. Lane counts, night sessions and reservation rules still vary, so treat this as a shortlist, then confirm dates and the day’s conditions on the park’s site. For timing advice, read when to go snow tubing and snowmaking and conditions.

Frequently asked questions
How many snow tubing parks make their own snow?
Of the 229 parks we track, 81 list snowmaking. That is about a third of the directory, spread across 24 states. Parks that don't list it may still make snow, so check the park's own conditions page.
Do snowmaking parks still need reservations?
It splits almost evenly. Of the 81, 25 state that reservations are required and 31 state they are not, with the rest not published. Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Blue Mountain Resort require them; Pigeon Forge Snow does not.
Does snowmaking mean a park will be open in December?
Not automatically. Snowmaking needs cold nights, so a warm spell can still delay an opening or close lanes. Most parks have not yet published 2026-27 dates, so watch each park's conditions or social feed close to your trip.
